Over the 15 days that you will spend at the game reserve the following activities have been planned for. In addition, unexpected emergency first aid or other unplanned events, (such as baby rhino being born and needing to be tracked or using tracking telemetry to find a recently released cheetah in need of a health check -Dec 2006) could create veterinary experiences that will make your adventure unique.

  • Practical on capture techniques used in antelope
  • Canoeing on river focusing on riverine ecosystem
  • Guided walk by Ulvovane facilitators (rangers)
  • Practical focus on predator management
  • Practical exercise relating to mega herbivore or predators management
  • Game drive and river cruise on Bushmans river
  • Practical visit to Wildlife rescue facility
  • Practical diurnal animal telemetry tracking on AGR
  • Visit Addo National Elephant park
  • Practical overview of park management and polices
  • Visit to animal holding bomas and discussion
  • Hand rearing of rhino and buffalo (if orphans available)
  • Practical vaccination procedure or disease testing practical
  • Night drive and star gazing
  • Practical on wildlife welfare surrounding capture and relocation
  • Night drive using telemetry on nocturnal species
  • Visit to Port Elizabeth Oceanarium
  • Practical blood sampling of marine animals (dolphins and sea lions)
  • Marine excursion into Algo Bay and Addo marine reserve (sea mammals and bird life)
  • Visit to Double drift reserve
  • Black Rhino expedition and tracking
  • Practical animal immobilisation for management purposes via ground and air (helicopter)
  • Visit to community village within Amakhala
  • Participation in veterinary wildlife callouts to take place at random times during the course
